Principal's Message

Welcome to Central Elementary!

My name is Whitney Longtin and I am honored to serve as the Principal of Central Elementary!  

On a personal note, after graduating from Gilbert High School, I earned my Bachelor’s degree in Elementary Education from Luther College.  Before coming to North Polk in 2024, I taught kindergarten and third grade, was an instructional coach, school administration manager, and an assistant principal in Ankeny Community Schools.  While serving in these various roles, I obtained two master’s degrees; one in the area of elementary education, and the second in Principal and Educational Leadership from Viterbo University.  When I am not at school my husband and three children keep me busy.  We enjoy attending their sporting events, hiking, camping, and sailing.  

Our building serves about 415 students in grades Preschool through 5th.  At Central, our mission is for all students to be curious learners who persevere and value all.  Here you will find a collaborative school culture that is focused on and dedicated to the learning of each student.  The Central Elementary team is comprised of teachers, paraeducators and support staff who are dedicated to meeting the needs of all students emotionally, socially and academically.  We will strive to provide a positive learning environment, implement best practices, and continually learn from each other in our Professional Learning Community.  Our important professional work will center on these guiding questions:

• What do we want students to learn?

• How will we know if they have learned it?

• How will we respond if they haven’t learned it or have already learned it?

Central is fortunate to have a top-notch professional staff that works tirelessly to ensure the success of all of its students.  I am also amazed at the support of our families and the resources provided by the community.  It is this partnership that helps turn aspirations into action and visions into reality. I am honored to serve alongside the staff, students and families here at Central.
